Seeds of life

Spring is here, time to plant seeds.  The seeds of life.

Seeds starts to feed moisture in soil, the warmth of soil and sunshine, roots start to form and grow. Tiny plant break free from seed, starts to reach into the light. As plant starts to break through the soil reaching out into the light feeding on sunshine, soil and moisture to feed the seed of life.

My past success to today's success

What do I mean by my past success that leads to today success?  My success is writing this blog that no one that I know who are close to me are doing this what I am doing.

What my past has anything to do with today's success?   I was born deaf, 5th child of hearing family. I was lucky to get best education my parents found for me.  I went to public high school and I was the first deaf person to attend public school.  At that time, there was no resources for deaf such as sign language interpreter, CART, or note takers.  I graduated top 1/4 in class of 1,000 students.

After graduation, I went to college in Washington DC from New York.  I had no savings or any means of income and one bag of possessions.  After one year, I left college and got myself three part time jobs for approx one year then reduced to 2 jobs when my employer increased part time hours to full time and one part time job.  Over the years, I continue to seek self improvement by getting myself more education, took training opp'y offered by employers.

I became first deaf loan officer for a mortgage company, which was featured in Deaf Mosaic that aired on Discovery channel in 1991 and then, I became first deaf Realtor in Northern Virginia which was featured in Real Estate Today magazine and then I worked my way up with Federal Government which I retired after 19 years.

BGC got my attention because the word Blessing means you send blessings and get blessed.  I have made new friends through social media and found old friends.  http://blessinggoldclub.site-ym.com/

I have met a couple of hearing people from BGC who I interacted via social media, text messages from cell phone without revealing my hearing loss.  I feel the power of internet which provides me success.

Drop out of the "Ain't it awful" club and surround yourself with successful people

It is very important to spend time with the people you want to become like. If you want to be more successful, you have to start hanging out with more successful people.

Attend lectures, symposia, courses, seminars, clinics, camps and retreats taught by those who have already achieved what you want to achieve.

John Assaraf is a successful entrepreneur who has seemingly done it all including traveling the world for a year in his twenties, owning and operating a franchising company whose annual real estate revenues topped $3 billion and helping to build Internet virtual tour pioneer Bamboo.com (now IPEX) from a team of 6 people to a team of 1,500 people in just over a year, netting millions in monthly sales and completing a successful initial public offering on the NASDAQ after just 9 months

These successful people taught John to never give up his dreams. "No matter what the failure" they told him "try another way, try going up, over, around or through, but never give up.  There's always a way"

You need to be surrounded with those who have done it; you need to be surrounded with people who have a positive attitude a solution-oriented approach to life- people who know that they can accomplish whatever they set out to do.

Avoid toxic people. Until you reach the point in your self-development where you no longer allow people to affect you with their negativity, you need to avoid toxic people at all costs.  You are better off spending time alone than spending time with people who will hold you back with their victim mentality and their mediocre standards.

Make a conscious effort to surround yourself with positive, nourishing, and uplifting people--people who believe in you, encourage you to go after your dreams, and applaud your victories. Surround yourself with possibility thinkers, idealist, and visionaries.

If you are going to be successful, you have to start hanging out with the successful people.  You need to ask them to share their success strategies with you.  Then try them on and see if they fit for you.

Experiment with doing what they do, reading what they read, thinking the way they think, and so on.  If the new ways of thinking and behaving work, adopt them. If not, drop them, and keep looking and experimenting.

Ignore negativity

The book I read is called "The Success Principles" by Jack Canfield.  He is also co creator of "Chicken Soup for the Soul"

Chapter 2 "Transform yourself for Success".  It is so important to spend time with the people you want to become like.  If you want to be more successful, you have to start hanging out with more successful people.

"You will become like the people you spend the most time with".  These successful people have learned to never give up dreams.  No matter what the failure, is to try another way, try going up, over,    around, or through, but never give up. There's always a way.

What this means,  you keep trying and do not give up. Always find a way to get ahead and avoid people who pulls you down like "crab theory".    You need to be surrounded by those who have done it;  you need to surrounded with people who have a positive attitude, a solution-oriented approach to life---people who know that they can accomplish whatever they set out to do.

What is "crab theory"  Several crabs were in large pot and some of the crabs are trying to climb out of pot, other crabs that pulls those crabs back into pot. That means when someone tries to succeed, and others who don't want see you succeed, will try to pull you down with negativity, such as trying to ruin your reputation or try to tell you, you can't do this or you won't make it.

Drop out of the Ain't it awful club.  

"There are two types of people--- anchors and motors".
You want to lose the anchors and get with the motors because the motors are going somewhere and they're having more fun. The anchors will just drag you down.  WYLAND, world-renowned marine artist.

Avoid toxic people.  You need to avoid toxic people at all costs.  You're better off spending time alone than spending time with people who will hold you back with their victim mentality and their mediocre standards.

What this means for you?  When you look and see something you like, go for it! Ignore people who says negative words and focus on people who believes all things are possible.

Reading 'Personal Development' Books is Essential

 We live in a very competitive world. Any person who wants a “piece of the pie” has to fight for it. Today, we go about getting a larger piece of the pie by increasing our self-worth through various means. One of which, is engaging in Personal Development!

 We are constantly surrounded with negativity, from people, TV, radio, and newspapers. It’s important that we counter this negativity, by only focusing on media that is positive and uplifting. More and more people are turning to Self-Help to improve themselves. They know that the results are well documented, proven and very successful!

 What is the magic behind the personal development genre? First, focused motivation in areas in which you are interested. Motivation empowers an individual with a positive mindset, and the correct attitude to develop skills… which increases your energy, drive, and productivity!

 Self-help media provides specialized knowledge that isn’t available in our educational system. What is specialized knowledge? It’s what you seek, is what you will find! There are many types of media available in every area of life; all that is required, is for you to make the time to ingest and absorb the information.

 This specialized information and knowledge is extremely valuable and practical, once you apply it. New knowledge opens the mind and expands it. You will be exposed to new ideas and perspectives that will take you to the next level in life!

 The acquisition of new knowledge is vitally important to remain competitive in today’s world!

However, knowledge alone is not sufficient to bring you to greater heights! This can greatly shorten the learning curve and reduce the time needed to achieve the outcome you desire.

 What I have learned from reading over 350 personal development books in my lifetime is this: They have the ability to act as a mentor to us. Mentors have valuable experience in their specialized fields that they want to share with us; insights and ideas never known to us before.

 Everyone recognizes the many benefits of a good mentor, but most of us are not lucky enough to find such a mentor to guide us.

Being a leader doesn't mean managing people. You can lead yourself and even lead others without an official title. Instead of leadership falling on the shoulders of those with titles, what if each member of the organization took on a leadership role? What if the power to inspire fell on each of us? What if you jumped on the self-leadership bus today?

Management expert and author Tom Peters has defined leadership as an ability to make people better than they believe they can be. As simple as this sounds, it's incredibly difficult to achieve—and you know this, because you have witnessed first-hand poor leadership. This is your chance to embrace your career development and take action to make you even better than you could imagine.

1. Hang with smart people. There is so much to learn. This is true for people just entering the workforce as well as for those closing in on retirement. Great leaders realize they don't know all the answers and are aware of their weaknesses and strengths. Learn from the best peace-keeper, the best negotiator, the best strategic thinker, and the best friendly face. Each one of them has a lesson or two to teach you if you're willing to listen.

2. Take initiative. Do you cast blame or get frustrated when people who should take responsibility don't? Do you wait for others to notice problems that need solving? Taking initiative means you don't wait to be told what to do. You seek answers to solve problems and appropriately convey your findings. Be aware of the fine line between being compliant and being insubordinate.

3. Collaborate. Leaders know they can't solve a problem on their own. This is why they bring together people with proven expertise. You can develop a knack for gathering people from different teams, divisions, groups, and sometimes even companies, to work toward a solution or new ideas. Successful collaboration results in blended ideas from inside a company as well as outside.

4. Stay true to your moral compass. A good leader knows right from wrong. Since you were young, you have been taught the difference between right and wrong. So why do some leaders lie, cheat, and steal? Does the line between right and wrong become blurred? Do they think they won't get caught? Do they succumb to external pressures? Or do they think their actions won't hurt anyone? Your integrity is your legacy and your future. Be sure to keep it in tip-top shape.

5. Treat everyone with respect. Who would have thought this even needed to be said, but it does. No one is below you, nor is anyone above you. We are all human beings and should treat one another with respect, regardless of position or title held. The CEO or president is a person too. They do not walk on water, nor are they more important than the IT technician or receptionist. Some may argue this point; however, without input from a variety of people with varying skills, there would be no organization. The message is that everyone deserves the right to be heard.

6. Be proactive. Often managers do a good job guiding and evaluating your performance, but not always. Proactively suggest you meet with your manager more regularly. Set mutually agreeable terms for the meeting's purpose and outcomes in advance. Do your part by arriving at the meeting prepared to discuss successes, challenges, and potential solutions and check to see if your priorities align with your manager's. Ask specific questions and remember, this is a discussion between two people, so feel free to add your opinions as appropriate.

7. Give the best you can each day. Some days you perform better than others; that's just how humans work. You aren't perfect and sometimes you might even fail miserably. Leaders don't make excuses, they admit their errors and get back on track. Make this your philosophy too. However, if you continually find yourself missing the mark, ask yourself if you're in the right environment, role, or company. When you use your best skills, it isn't hard to give your best every day.

The Power in Praising People
One of the keys to success is to have successful relationships. We are not islands and we don’t get to the top by ourselves.

One of the keys to success is to have successful relationships. We are not islands and we don’t get to the top by ourselves. And one of the key ways to grow successful in our relationships is to be “life-giving” people to others.
Every person we meet, we either give life to or take life from. You know what I mean. There are people who encourage you and when you are done being with them you feel built up. Then there are others who you feel torn down by. Successful people are people who have mastered the art of building others up.
One of the ways we build people up is to praise them. There is power in praising people!
Something begins to happen in them, in you, and in your relationship when you praise someone. Remember a time when someone told you something about yourself in a praising manner? It was great, wasn’t it? You probably liked that person more after they praised you, didn’t you?
Now I am not talking about praising people for the sake of praising people. I am talking about honestly looking for and praising positive character traits and action of others around you. Don’t lie to people. If they have done something wrong, correct it, but when they do something right, Praise it!
With that said, here are benefits of and ways to start praising people.
Benefits
Your relationship grows.
Life is about relationships. Family relationships, friends, and co-workers. When we begin to praise people for their positive aspects, our relationships grow. It puts them, and us, on the fast track.
Your leadership and influence grows.
Who is going to have greater leadership and influence capacity in the lives of their followers, the one who tears down or the one who builds up?
Stronger relationships and loyalty.
When the person is appreciated and praised, they become fiercely loyal, because they know that you care for them, love them, and appreciate them. This will take you to success.
Happier, more fulfilled people.
I truly believe it is our job to build others up and that they need it. It is a good thing, in and of itself to invest in the lives of others by praising and encouraging them. Even if we never get anything in return, it is the right thing to do to build up other people. Someone else will always come along to tear them down; the successful person will instill in them the power of praise!
Some ways to praise
Character traits.
Is there someone you know who is joyful? Hard- working? Honest? Then let them know how much you appreciate that in them. You can do it with a word or a card, or a phone call. Say something like this, “You know Tom, I think it is great that you are such a hard- worker. It seems like you are always the first one here and the last one to leave. You really set a good example and I want you to know how much I appreciate that.” Simple!
Action.
Same idea as above. “Sue, I don’t know if anybody else has told you this, but your work on the Johnson account was excellent. You have a wonderful ability to communicate the vision of the project and that helps all of the rest of us out in our roles and tasks. Thanks for that. It is greatly appreciated.”

Other ways you can show praise and appreciation is with a card, a gift, or time off from work. Make it your goal to praise at least five people a day. If you can, praise ten people a day. Or perhaps you can try to praise everyone you come in contact with. It will take work but it is possible. It just takes discipline and a little work.
Any way you cut it though, there is power in praising people. First for them, then for you!
